Next Generation Smart Factory Test Bed¶
This section describes the Next Generation Smart Factory (NGSF) test bed, which is a practical and evolving demonstration that showcases cutting-edge Intel® Industrial Technology. The ingredients enable you to build similar projects at your own premises.
The system and ingredients described in this section can also be used for measurement purposes or as an introduction to Time Sensitive Networking (TSN).
The full demonstration includes 5G (Wireless component), Industrial PCs, FPGA-based TSN Ethernet switches, switched endpoints, and FPGA-based servo drives (motor controllers). The demonstration shows the capabilities of the components as important pieces of NGSFs for synchronizing two servomotors based on the Open Platform Communications – Unified Architecture Publish Subscribe (OPC UA PubSub) specification using TSN as a network protocol.
This demonstration also shows the deterministic behavior of the system for real-time and time sensitive networking as the system also performs measurements to show the system status. The OPC UA messages are responsible for controlling and measuring, and for carrying the information to process both.
This section provides the step-by-step instructions to configure, combine the nodes, compile the application, configure the end nodes, and effectively run the demonstration code.
